Keley-I Kallahan New Testament (IFYWBT)
Overview
The Keley-I Kallahan New Testament, titled Ya ehel apu Dios in the vernacular, is a Bible translation for the Keley-i people of Ifugao Province in the Cordillera region of northern Luzon, Philippines. The Keley-i, also known as Antipolo Ifugao or Hapuan, are an ethnolinguistic group of approximately 12,000 people inhabiting the mountainous areas of Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, and neighboring provinces [1]. Bible portions in Keley-i were first produced between 1970 and 1993, with a New Testament completed in 1980 and the complete Bible finished in 2008-2009 [1]. SIL linguist Richard Hohulin played a central role in the translation, working closely with a local Bible Translation Team that included Victor Baguilat, Teresita Dulawan, Anita Guindayan, Gabriel Kabbigat, Anuden Ligmayo, Alberto Maddawat, and Josephine Pataueg [2][3]. The translation required careful cultural adaptation; for instance, the concept of "God loved the world" had to be expanded to "all people on earth" because Keley-i speakers would otherwise interpret "world" as referring to the physical earth [3].
