1927 Riveduta Bibbia (ITAR27)
Overview
The 1927 Riveduta Bibbia is a revision of Giovanni Diodati's landmark 1607 Italian Bible translation. The revision was commissioned by the British and Foreign Bible Society and carried out by a committee of scholars representing different Protestant denominations in Italy, under the direction of the Waldensian theologian Giovanni Luzzi (1856-1948). [1] Published in 1924 (with some editions dated 1927), the Riveduta updated Diodati's text in light of the evolution of the Italian language and advances in biblical scholarship regarding the original Hebrew and Greek texts. [1] Though commonly known as the "Luzzi Bible," this designation is technically inaccurate, as Luzzi served as director of a committee rather than sole translator. [1] The Riveduta remained the standard Italian Protestant Bible for decades and served as the basis for the Nuova Riveduta revision published by the Bible Society of Geneva in 1994. [2] The text is now in the public domain.
