Izere 2006 Edition (IZRTBL)

Overview

The Izere 2006 Edition is a New Testament translation in the Izere language, spoken by the Afizere people (also known as Afusare, Fezere, or Jarawa) in Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna states of central Nigeria [1]. The Afizere number approximately 110,000 people and are primarily found in Jos, Barikin Ladi, Toro, and Jema'a local government areas [2]. Bible portions in Izere were first published as early as 1940, and missionary translators affiliated with Wycliffe Bible Translators lived in Nigeria from 1991 to 2005 working on the Izere New Testament [2][3]. The completed New Testament was dedicated in 2006 and published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. in collaboration with the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust [3]. The Izere language belongs to the Plateau language family within the Benue-Congo branch and is spoken in five dialects: South Izere, North Izere, and Northeast Izere among them [2].
