Bu New Testament (JIDDOR)

Overview

The Bu New Testament is a 2020 translation of the New Testament into Bu (also known as Bu-Ninkada, Ibut, Abu, or Jida), a Plateau language of central Nigeria. [1] Bu is classified within the Western Plateau (Ninzic) branch of the Benue-Congo family and is spoken in the villages of Nakere, Rago, Maiganga, and Abu in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. [1] [2] The language has two ethnically distinct dialect groups: Bu, with about 4,000 speakers in Nakere, Rago, Maiganga, and Abu, and Ningkada, with about 2,000 speakers in Ningkada (Jidda) and Lago, giving a combined population of roughly 4,000 to 6,000 people. [1] This translation was produced through the Door43 World Missions Community and released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, representing a significant effort to provide Scripture to a small language community.
