New Testament in Shuar (JIVWBT)

Overview

The New Testament in Shuar (Yus Papí) was first published in 1975. A complete Shuar Bible was delivered to Ecuador in August 2010, with seven dedication events held across Shuar territory in 2011, organized by the Association of Shuar Evangelical Churches under president Daniel Chu. [1] The main ceremony was held in Makuma. [1] Translation work was driven by Dorothy Walker (Avant Ministries) and Dr. Glen Turner (SIL), who created the 16-letter Jivaro alphabet in 1958. [1] Jim and Norma Hedlund (Avant Ministries) began assisting Shuar translators in 1989. [1] A total of 22 Shuar translators worked on the project over many years, including Humberto Tankamash and Domingo Najamtai. [1]
