Tsikimba New Testament (KDLWBT)
Overview
The Tsikimba New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into Tsikimba, a Kainji language spoken by approximately 100,000 people in Niger State and Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria [1]. Tsikimba is one of the Kambari languages, also known by the alternate names Kimba, Auna, Agaushi, and Kambari, and is spoken primarily in the Magama, Mashigu, and Mariga local government areas of Niger State, east of Lake Kainji on the Niger River [2]. The translation was carried out by the Kambari Language Project (KLP), which was established in March 1992 and has produced New Testaments in all three Kambari language clusters: Tsikimba (Auna/Warra), Tsishingini (Salka), and Cishingini (Agwara) [3]. The Tsikimba New Testament was published in 2010 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [4]. Bible portions in Tsikimba had been available since 2001, and the project also developed orthographies, trilingual dictionaries containing approximately 5,000 words, and established over 300 vocational literacy classes [3].
