Overview

The Borong New Testament and Old Testament Portions is the first Scripture translation in the Borong language of Papua New Guinea. The New Testament was initially published in 2002, with a revised edition released in 2011 that also included selected Old Testament portions. [1] The translation was carried out by Wycliffe Bible Translators in partnership with the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. [1] The Borong people are part of the Northeast Cluster of language groups in Papua New Guinea, and ongoing translation work continues to expand the available Old Testament Scriptures, including drafts of Psalms and 1 Samuel. [2] The vernacular title is "Uumeleembaa Buŋa Tere Soomoŋgo Gbilia."

The Borong (also known as Kosorong or Naama) are a small language community in Papua New Guinea. They are part of the Northeast Cluster of people groups, which also includes the Dedua, Iyo, and Somba-Siawari, who have collaborated on Bible translation projects. [2]
