Awa-Cuaiquer New Testament (KWIWBT)

Overview

The Awa-Cuaiquer New Testament, titled "Masas Pit Jesucristowa," was published in 2002 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with a second edition released in 2010 [1][2]. The Awa (also known as Kwaiker or Awa-Kwaiker) are an indigenous people inhabiting the western Andean slopes in the department of Narino in southern Colombia and adjacent areas of northern Ecuador, speaking the Awa Pit language, a member of the Barbacoan language family [3][4]. The Awa Pit language has approximately 21,000 speakers across Colombia and Ecuador, though literacy in the native language is less than 1 percent, with most men also speaking Spanish while women and children are predominantly monolingual in Awa Pit [3][5]. The earliest Bible portions in Awa-Cuaiquer date to 1979, with translation work continuing through 1982 before the complete New Testament was published in 2002 [6]. Scripture resources in Awa-Cuaiquer are now available in multiple formats including audio Bibles, the Gospel of Luke film, and mobile applications through platforms such as YouVersion and Faith Comes By Hearing [7].
