Lango (Uganda) 1978 Edition (LAJBSU)
Overview
The Lango (Uganda) 1978 Edition is a New Testament translation in the Lango language, published by the Bible Society of Uganda. Bible portions in Lango were first published in 1967, followed by the New Testament in 1974. [1] The complete Lango Bible was subsequently published in 1979. [1] The Lango people (also called Langi) inhabit north-central Uganda and speak a Western Nilotic language of the Luo branch, closely related to Acholi. [2] The Lango language adopted Luo speech through prolonged interaction with the neighboring Acholi, despite the Langi being originally an Ateker ethnic group. [2] A revision of the Lango Bible has been proposed by the Bible Society of Uganda to update the text for contemporary readers. [3]
