Lao Common Language Bible (LAOUBS)

Overview

The Lao Common Language Bible is a New Testament translation in the Lao language, published by the United Bible Societies. Bible work in Laos began in 1902 through the Bible Society of Indochina, a branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. [1] Swiss Brethren missionaries initiated Lao Scripture translation that same year, producing three Gospels in 1908 and a full Bible translation by 1932. [2] The Bible Society in Laos was formally established in 1966 but was disrupted in 1975 following political upheaval. [1] No formal Bible Society currently operates in the country; Scripture translation and production continues through partnerships between the United Bible Societies and the Lao Evangelical Church. [1] The Revision Lao Translation Committee, formed by UBS, has worked on a Common Language revision of the text. [3]
