Limbu New Testament (Devanagari Script) (LIFDEV)
Overview
The Limbu New Testament in Devanagari script was published in 2009, the result of a collaborative effort between the Isia Limbu Literature Association (ILLA) and Wycliffe Bible Translators [1][2]. The Limbu language, known as Yakthungpan by its speakers, belongs to the Kiranti branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family and is spoken by approximately 407,000 people in eastern Nepal and northeastern India [3][4]. The printed edition carries ISBN 9789937217637 [5]. This Devanagari-script edition provides access to Limbu speakers who may be more familiar with the Devanagari writing system widely used in Nepal, as opposed to the indigenous Sirijanga (Limbu) script used in the companion LIFWBT edition [3]. ILLA, formally known as the Christian Limbu Literature Association, was established in Nepal with the express purpose of translating God's Word into the Limbu language, and also completed an Old and New Testament Bible dedication in 2023 [2].
