Open New Luo Translation (LUOONT)
Overview
The Open New Luo Translation (Biblica® Ochiw Thuolo Motingʼo Loko Manyien) is a contemporary Dholuo translation produced by Biblica, Inc. for Luo speakers of Kenya and Tanzania. In February of 2020, the new Open Luo Bible was launched in Kenya. There are more than 5.4 million Luo language speakers in Kenya, making it the second-largest language group in that nation, and it is growing rapidly. The last Luo Bible translation was released 45 years before, in 1976. Young Kenyans struggle to understand the older translation, and with 60% of Kenya's population below the age of 25, the need for a contemporary-language translation is significant. The newly released translation is modeled on the NIV. Its copyright is dated 1980, 2002, 2003, and 2020, and it is distributed as an open text under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license via ebible.org and open.bible.
