The Lumbu audio scripture resource produced by the Coordination Inter-Eglises pour la Traduction et l'alphabétisation en Langue Gabonaise (CIEATLG) brings the Word of God to the approximately 49,000 Lumbu speakers in Gabon's Nyanga and Ogooué-Maritime provinces, with additional speakers in the Republic of Congo. The Lumbu people (also known as Baloumbou or Ilumbu) live along the southwestern coast of Gabon between the Nyanga and Bangua rivers, including the coastal communities of Mayumba, Gamba, Setté Cama, and surrounding villages. [1] Scripture portions in the Lumbu language have existed since as early as 1933, and CIEATLG serves as an inter-church coordination body dedicated to Bible translation and literacy work in Gabonese languages. [2] Audio scripture distribution is particularly vital for this community, where oral transmission of scripture enables broader engagement across generations.
