The New Testament in Ilianen Manobo (MBIWBT)
Overview
The New Testament in Ilianen Manobo was published in 1989 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with the vernacular title "Ke meupiya ne tudtul mekeatag ki Hisu Kristu" (the good news about Jesus Christ) [1]. SIL linguist Hazel J. Wrigglesworth conducted extensive fieldwork among the Ilianen Manobo from 1965 to 1980, documenting the language and its oral literature traditions, and contributing to both linguistic analysis and literacy development that supported the translation effort [2][3]. Bible portions in Ilianen Manobo were first produced between 1961 and 1981, preceding the completed New Testament [4]. The Ilianen Manobo are concentrated in the Arakan Valley of North Cotabato, Mindanao, where they are also known as Ilianon or Arumanen Manobo [5][6]. The language belongs to the Manobo branch of the Philippine Austronesian languages, with dialects including Arakan Valley and Livunganen [4]. This was the first Bible translation completed for the Ilianen Manobo language community.
