Overview

The Goti Hanjuwä Iqueqä Kukŋui is a New Testament translation in the Menya language (ISO 639-3: mcr), published in 2017 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Menya is an Angan language spoken by approximately 25,000 people whose traditional homeland is in the Upper Tauri Valley in the southwest corner of Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. [2] The translation is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license. [1]

Language and People

Menya (also known as Menyama or Menye) belongs to the Trans-New Guinea language family and is part of the Angan language group. [2] Its closest relatives in terms of shared vocabulary are Kapau and Yagwoia. [2] A reference grammar of Menya was published by SIL, documenting features such as dyadic kinship terms, which are rare globally, and verb-final word order typical of Papuan languages. [3]
