Guerguiko New Testament (MOZWBT)

Overview

The Guerguiko New Testament, titled "Mattup ki Taasuwa ere Aware" in the vernacular, was dedicated on December 28, 2020, in Moukoulou, Guéra Province, Chad, with nearly 2,000 people in attendance. [1] Guerguiko, an East Chadic language of the Afro-Asiatic family, is properly called Guerguiko (or Gergiko); "Mukulu" refers to the principal village. Translation work began around 1992 when David and Elly Sharp (Wycliffe Australia) relocated to Mukulu village, and the project took approximately 28 years to complete. [1] Printed New Testaments arrived in Chad in early 2020 but the launch was delayed first by customs, then by the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] The church grew significantly during the translation process, creating three satellite congregations even before the New Testament was completed. [2]

Mukulu (ISO 639-3: moz) is spoken by approximately 12,000 people in Southwestern Chad. [Glottolog: muku1242]
