Tlahuitoltepec Mixe New Testament (MXPWBT)

Overview

The Tlahuitoltepec Mixe New Testament was published in 1987 by La Liga Bíblica Internacional, the product of a long-term translation effort facilitated by SIL International (Instituto Lingüístico de Verano) and Wycliffe Bible Translators [1]. SIL linguists Don D. and Shirley Lyon began work on the Tlahuitoltepec Mixe language in the 1960s, with Don Lyon publishing research on Mixe verb syntagmemes (1967) and clause structure (1967), and compiling a comprehensive linguistic description of the language including phonology, syntax, texts, and a lexicon [2][3]. The translation is now available in print-on-demand editions produced by the Digital Bible Society in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators, and in digital format through YouVersion and other platforms [4]. Tlahuitoltepec Mixe (also known as Mixe Alto del Centro, West Central Mixe, or Ayuujk) is a Mixe-Zoque language spoken in the municipality of Santa María Tlahuitoltepec and surrounding villages in the Sierra Mixe region of Oaxaca, Mexico [5].
