New Testament Portions in Mixtec, Metlatónoc (MXVNTP)

Overview

This volume contains New Testament portions in Metlatónoc Mixtec, including the Gospel of Mark and the Book of Revelation, published by Wycliffe Bible Translators with a copyright date of 2012 [1]. A more complete New Testament edition in the same language (mxv) was subsequently published by Wycliffe in 2017, with accompanying audio recorded in 2016 [2]. Metlatónoc Mixtec (also known as Tu'un Savi de Metlatónoc y Cochoapa el Grande) is spoken in the municipalities of Metlatónoc and Cochoapa el Grande in the mountainous eastern region of the state of Guerrero, Mexico, one of the most marginalized areas of the country [3]. The language belongs to the Mixtec branch of the Otomanguean family and has a large speaker population, many of whom are monolingual, making vernacular Scripture especially significant for this community [4]. SIL linguists have contributed to linguistic research on the language, and Bible teaching resources in audio and visual formats have been developed to support literacy and engagement with the translated text [5].
