Maiadomu Mark (MZZWBT)

Overview

The Maiadomu Mark, titled "Maiadomu Malika" in the vernacular, contains the Gospel of Mark translated into the Maiadomu language, an Austronesian language of the Iama-Musan branch, most closely related to Iamalele, spoken on the northeastern shore of Fergusson Island in the shadow of Mt. Kilkerran in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. The Maiadomu-speaking community is relatively small, with approximately 900-1,300 speakers, and their villages are rather difficult to access, with the nearest airstrips reachable only by boat or an arduous two-to-three-day hike over mountainous terrain [2][3]. The translation was completed in 2010 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, representing an initial Scripture portion for this language community [4]. Christianity has a significant presence among the Maiadomu people, with approximately 95% identifying as Christian adherents [3].
