Nakara Selections (NCKEBL)

Overview

The Nakara Selections is a Scripture portions publication containing the Gospels of Mark and John in the Nakara language (ISO 639-3: nck), a non-Pama-Nyungan Aboriginal language spoken in the coastal area of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia [1][2]. The Nakkara people traditionally live in and around the government settlement of Maningrida [1]. The translation was completed and consultant-checked at a workshop in Darwin in 2024, and published in 2025 by Wycliffe Bible Translators [1]. Nakara is one of several West Arnhem Land languages with active Bible translation work, alongside Kuninjku, Ndjebbana, Rembarrnga, Burarra, Mawng, and Jabiru-Mayali [3].
