Nkonya New Testament (NKOWBT)

Overview

The Nkonya New Testament is the first New Testament in the Nkonya language, a North Guang language of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo family, spoken by approximately 20,400 people in southeastern Ghana. [1] The Nkonya people live mainly in about 13 towns in the central Volta Region, east of Lake Volta and north of Ahenkro, with two recognized dialect areas: northern (around Wurupong) and southern (around Tepo). [1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT) and the Bible League (BL) in cooperation with the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), which included Nkonya among its literacy programme languages beginning in 1972. [2] [3] The published edition also includes Psalms alongside the full New Testament. [4]
