Overview

This publication contains Scripture portions (the Gospel of Luke and Acts) in the Nama language (ISO 639-3: nmx), a Papuan language spoken in Western Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. Nama (also known as Noraia) belongs to the Nambu subgroup of the Yam language family (also called the Morehead-Upper Maro family) and is spoken by approximately 1,200 people in the Morehead district of southern New Guinea [2][3]. The language is classified as 6a (Vigorous) on the Expanded Grading Intergenerational Disruption Scale [1]. The translation was published in 2025 by SIL Papua New Guinea. Note that this Nama language is distinct from the Khoisan Nama language of southern Africa.
