Nawdm 2013 Edition (NMZWSB)
Overview
The Nawdm 2013 Edition contains the New Testament and Psalms in the Nawdm language, spoken by approximately 146,000 people in northern Togo and parts of Ghana. [1] The translation effort spanned four decades, beginning in 1976 when Jacques and Marie-Claire Nicole established the pioneer translation team, with support from Marcel and Erika Gasser over roughly ten years, and later joined by linguist Helene Ballarin-Bucasse in 1995 and her husband Jonathan. [1] The completed New Testament with Psalms was delivered in June 2013, and a dedication ceremony was held in mid-November 2013 in the town of Niamtougou, attended by approximately 300 people including Christians, Muslims, animists, and government representatives, alongside organizations such as SIL, UBS, and Wycliffe. [1] [2] The translation both served and helped preserve the Nawdm language, enabling monolingual Nawdm speakers to engage directly with Scripture without intermediaries translating from French. [1]
