Nehan New Testament (NSNWBT)
Overview
The Nehan New Testament, titled "O Uelhire Uaia," was published in 2011 by the Bible League and Wycliffe Bible Translators for the approximately 6,000 Nehan speakers on Nissan Island in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. [1] Nehan, also known as Nissan or Nihan, is an Austronesian language of the Oceanic branch spoken on the Green Islands north of Bougainville. [2] The language has two main dialects: Uanuleik, spoken by about 5,000 people, and Sirouatan, spoken by about 1,000 people, both on Nissan Island. [2] This 2011 publication represents the first complete New Testament in the Nehan language. [3]
