The New Testament plus Ruth and Psalms in the Natqgu language of the Solomon Islands (NTUWBT)

Overview

This publication contains the New Testament plus the books of Ruth and Psalms in the Natqgu language (also spelled Natuegu) of the Solomon Islands, published in 2008 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Natqgu, also known as Santa Cruz, is the main Oceanic language spoken on the island of Nendo (Santa Cruz) in Temotu Province, with approximately 5,000-7,100 speakers across six dialects. [2] The name "Natuegu" means "our language" in the local tongue. [3] The translation project was led by Dr. Brenda Boerger, who served as Advisor to the Natqgu Language Project from 1987 to 2008 and also worked as a Linguistics and Translation Consultant for the Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group from 1999 to 2006. [4] Boerger's work extended beyond Scripture translation to include production of a Natqgu-English diglot spelling dictionary (2005), graded readers, and extensive language documentation that has contributed to the vitality and preservation of the Natqgu language.
