Nuaulu Bible (NXLWBT)
Overview
The Nuaulu Bible is a translation of Scripture into South Nuaulu, one of two Nuaulu varieties alongside North Nuaulu (nni), spoken by approximately 2,200 people in six villages in the Amahai district on the south coast of Seram island in Maluku Province, Indonesia [1][2]. The translation work has been led by Rosemary Bolton, a Wycliffe Bible Translators translator and translation specialist who has worked in Indonesia since 1985, together with her Nuaulu co-worker Huna [3]. Bolton, who holds a PhD from Fuller Theological Seminary, has also served as a OneStory oral Bible story advisor and has produced a panorama of 42 oral Bible stories in the Nuaulu language [3]. The project was carried out under the auspices of the Gereja Protestan Maluku (Protestant Church of Maluku), which is listed as a contributor to the translation [4]. The 2019 publication includes consultant-checked translations of Genesis, Mark, and Acts, among other portions, with the broader translation still in progress [5]. The Nuaulu people are predominantly adherents of their traditional religion, with a smaller minority being Christian, making this translation an important resource for the emerging church community on Seram [1].
