Kille Caaqo (OYDL)

Overview

This is the 2025 New Testament in the Oyda language of Ethiopia, published in Latin script by The Word for the World International. The title "Kille Caaqo" is the Latin-script rendering of the Oyda title meaning the same as the Ethiopic-script edition (OYDE). The Oyda people live in southwest Ethiopia and number approximately 87,000. [1] Oyda is an Ometo language within the Omotic branch of the Afroasiatic language family. [2] The Word for the World has been conducting Bible translation projects among the Oyda people as part of their broader work across 21 language groups in Ethiopia. [3] The translation has been made available through platforms such as eBible.org under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license. [4]

Language and People

The Oyda language is spoken in the district of Oyda in southwest Ethiopia, within the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. [2] Its neighboring languages include Gofa, Aari, and Maale. [2] Many speakers are bilingual in Gofa or Amharic. [2] The Oyda are part of the broader KOM (Konta, Oyda, and Melo) group of peoples in the region. [3]
