Pinyin 2017 Edition (PNYCAB)

Overview

The Pinyin 2017 Edition is a full Bible in the Pinyin language (also known as Bapinyi or Menka), a Grassfields Bantu language of the Ngemba cluster spoken by approximately 27,000 people in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, southwest of Bamenda in the Santa Subdivision. [1][2] The Bible, titled "Ɨkàanə̀ ghù shwuə̀," was published by CABTAL (Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy), a faith-based organization committed to helping communities access Scripture and education in their mother tongue. [3] CABTAL began planning translation activities in the Pinyin community around the year 2000, and an SIL sociolinguistic survey conducted by Susanne Kruger in 2001 documented the language situation, finding Pinyin to be part of the Ngemba language cluster alongside Awing, Bafut, and Mendankwe-Nkwen.
