Portuguese Translation for Translators (PORTFT)
Overview
The Portuguese Translation for Translators (A Bíblia Sagrada, Tradução para Tradutores) is a Brazilian Portuguese New Testament published in 2018, translated by Ellis W. Deibler, Jr. [1] It is a Portuguese rendering of Deibler's English "Translation for Translators" (T4T), a New Testament designed specifically as a source text for Bible translators working in languages that lack Scripture. [2] The T4T uses short sentences, converts abstract nouns into full clauses, supplies both active and passive verb forms, presents rhetorical questions as statements, explains figures of speech non-figuratively, and marks implicit information in italics. [2] Deibler, a retired Wycliffe Bible Translators consultant with over 50 years of translation experience, created the English T4T over eight years using the United Bible Societies' Greek text. [2]
