Parauk 2012 Edition (PRKBSM)
Overview
The Parauk 2012 Edition is the full Bible in the Pa-O language (also known as Parauk, Taungthu, or Black Karen), published by the Bible Society of Myanmar. The Pa-O people are the second-largest ethnic group in southern Shan State, Myanmar, numbering approximately 871,000, with smaller populations in Mon State, Karen State, and the Bago Region. [1] Approximately 90% of the Pa-O are Theravada Buddhist, and the Christian population remains very small at around 0.2%. [1] Missionaries first began translating Scripture portions into Pa-O in 1912, and the first New Testament was published in 1961. [1] A Common Language New Testament translation project was started in 1987 and the revised New Testament was launched in 2009. [2] The Pa-O writing system is based on the Mon-Burmese script, developed by Christian missionaries in the 19th century to facilitate Bible translation and literacy. [3]
