Huaylla Wanca Quechua New Testament (QVWTBL)

Overview

The Huaylla Wanca Quechua New Testament (Muśhü limalicuy) is a translation of the New Testament into Huaylla Wanca Quechua, a Central Quechua language spoken in the Junín region of Peru. The translation was created by Wycliffe Bible Translators and published in 2010 by Bible League International. [1] Huaylla Wanca Quechua is one of the three main dialects of Wanka Quechua, spoken by the Wanka (Huanca) people, who spoke Quechua before the Inca expansion. [2]

Language and People

Huaylla Wanca Quechua (ISO 639-3: qvw) is spoken by approximately 300,000 people in the Concepción, Huancayo, and Chupaca provinces in the southwest of the Junín region of central Peru. [1] [2] It belongs to the Quechua I (Central) branch and is one of three Wanka Quechua dialects: Waylla Wanka (Huancayo and Chupaca), Waycha Wanka (Concepción), and Shawsha Wanka (Jauja). [2] The Huanca people of the Junín region are among Peru's oldest Quechua-speaking groups. Linguist Rodolfo Cerrón Palomino, himself a native Wanka speaker, published the first Wanka grammar and dictionary in 1977.
