Southern Conchucos Ancash Quechua New Testament (QXOLLB)

Overview

The Southern Conchucos Ancash Quechua New Testament (Biblia en Quechua del sur de Conchucos) is a translation of the New Testament into the Quechua variety spoken on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca in the Ancash region of central Peru. The translation was created by Wycliffe Bible Translators and first published in 2002 by Bible League International, with a subsequent edition in 2008. [1] [2] A complete Bible including the Old Testament was later published in 2019 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [2]

Language and People

Southern Conchucos Ancash Quechua (ISO 639-3: qxo) is spoken by approximately 250,000 to 300,000 people on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca in the Ancash and northwest Huánuco regions of Peru, including the provinces of Huari, Chavín, San Luis, Llamellín, Huacaybamba, and Huacrachuco. [1] [3] It belongs to the Quechua I (Central) branch. The language is classified as stable, though an estimated 80,000 speakers are monolingual and do not speak Spanish.
