Kara Bible (REGEBL)
Overview
The Kara Bible is a New Testament translation (27 books) in Kikara, a Bantu language spoken on Ukara Island in Lake Victoria, Tanzania. [1] The translation was completed and published on October 6, 2020, by the Door43 World Missions Community under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 4.0 license. [1] Kara is spoken primarily within the eight villages of Ukara Island, where the community depends largely on fishing. [2] Lutheran Bible Translators has been actively involved in supporting the Kara Bible translation effort, equipping local leaders for long-term Bible ministry on the island. [2]
Translators and Contributors
The translation team included Christopher Constantine, Cloud Roman, Denis, Eliada Mukaruka, Rev. Buliro, Rev. Mulangi, Thereza, Vailet, Vaireth, and Tedy Ssemakweli. [1] The project used a mentorship model connecting Kara translators with the experienced Kerewe translation team on nearby Ukerewe Island, building regional translation capacity. [2]
