Rendille Wycliffe Bible (RELWBT)

Overview

The Rendille New Testament was dedicated on August 18, 2018, at Korr, after a 37-year translation effort that began in 1981. [1] The project was undertaken by Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL Kenya), a Wycliffe Global Alliance affiliate, with Nick and Lynne Swanepoel of Africa Inland Mission helping to establish the orthography; work paused during the 1984 famine. Bible portions were produced from 1993 onward, having circulated earlier through BTL's literacy programmes. [2] The translation was carried out by Laban Eyesinkele and Joshua Galimogle, who worked together for decades as the primary translators. [1] In 2015, Seed Company partnered with the team to accelerate completion. [1] The completed New Testament — Wori Haaggane Yeesso Kiriisto Miinsan Ayyinti Husube Waakh Enenyet Igooche — was dedicated with copies carried on the backs of camels to the celebration site. [3] Rendille is a Cushitic language of the pastoralist Rendille people of southern Marsabit.
