Rote Rikou Bible (RGUUBB)

Overview

Genesis and most of the New Testament (excluding the Gospel of John) in the Ringgou language, a Malayo-Polynesian language of the Rote-Meto subgroup spoken on Rote Island, eastern Indonesia, published in 2004 by Unit Bahasa dan Budaya (UBB-GMIT), the Language and Culture Unit of the Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT). [1] The translation was part of a multi-language Bible translation initiative on Rote Island coordinated by UBB-GMIT in partnership with the Seed Company and Wycliffe Bible Translators, which initiated translation projects in several Rote languages including Rikou, Dela, Tii, and Lole. [2] Ringgou is spoken in the eastern part of Rote Island, in the domains of Ringgou, Landu, and Oepao. [3]

Language and People

Ringgou (ISO 639-3: rgu) is spoken by approximately 12,000 people in Indonesia, Nusa Tenggara and Southwestern Maluku. [Glottolog: ring1244]
