Kitabul Mukaddos or Injil Corif (RHGC)

Overview

Kitabul Mukaddos or Injil Corif is a New Testament translation (27 books) in the Rohingya language, produced by The Word for the World International in collaboration with Rohingya East Asia Translation, with a copyright date of 2024. [1] The Rohingya are a stateless Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group originating from Rakhine State, Myanmar, who speak an Indo-European language of the Southeastern Bengali branch. [2] Before the 2017 genocide, an estimated 1.4 million Rohingya lived in Myanmar; nearly a million are now refugees in Bangladesh. [2] The title "Kitabul Mukaddos" derives from the Arabic term "Al-Kitab al-Muqaddas" meaning "The Holy Book," while "Injil Corif" refers to the Gospel. [3] Rohingya Bible resources are available in both Rohingya Latin and Rohingya Hanifi scripts. [3]

Language and People

The Rohingya language has between 1.5 and 2 million speakers and is understood in southeastern Bangladesh's Chittagong region but is foreign to Myanmar's majority Burmese speakers. [2] The written script of the Rohingya language has been suppressed in Myanmar for so long that it is almost unknown to many Rohingya themselves. [2] The Rohingya are denied citizenship under Myanmar's 1982 nationality law and face severe restrictions on freedom of movement, education, and employment. [2]
