Sasak Today's Sasak New Testament (SASLAI)

Overview

Today's Sasak New Testament, published in 2007 by Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia (Indonesian Bible Society), is the first complete New Testament in the Sasak language. [1] Sasak is the indigenous language of Lombok island in eastern Indonesia, spoken by approximately 85 percent of the island's population. [2] The Sasak people are predominantly Muslim, and Lombok has a strong Islamic cultural identity. [2] Earlier portions of Scripture in Sasak date to 1948, but this 2007 edition represents a milestone as a full New Testament translation. [3] The translation is titled "Kitab Suci Zabur Injil" and is available in both print and digital formats. [1]

Sasak (ISO 639-3: sas) is spoken by approximately 3,170,000 people in Indonesia, Nusa Tenggara and Southwestern Maluku. [Glottolog: sasa1249]
