Sentani Bible (New Testament) (SETWBT)

Overview

The Sentani Bible (New Testament), titled "Allahle a neme heteungekoke homofae" in Sentani, was published in 2020 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Sentani-speaking community of Papua, Indonesia. The Sentani people live around Lake Sentani, a tropical lake located approximately 20 kilometres from Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua [1]. Translation work in the Sentani language was carried out by Dwight and Margaret Hartzler, who went to Indonesia in 1975 with Wycliffe Bible Translators and began working with the Sentani people in 1976 [2]. Dwight Hartzler also contributed significantly to the documentation of the language, co-authoring a Sentani-Indonesian-English dictionary published through the Summer Institute of Linguistics in 1993 [3]. The Sentani language is now classified as endangered, as younger generations increasingly adopt Papuan Malay as their daily language due to urbanization and contact with outsiders near the Jayapura urban center [4].
