Sembeleke Bible (SSXPNG)

Overview

The New Testament and Genesis in the Sembeleke (Samberigi) language of Papua New Guinea, completed in 1991 and published by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. [1] The translation was produced by Ken Macnaughtan. [2] Samberigi — also known as Sembeleke or Sau — is an Engan language of the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken in the Samberigi Valley of Gulf and Southern Highlands provinces. The Samberigi people are of coastal or Papuan descent. [3] The Sembeleke language has approximately 3,000 speakers, making this a small-language translation typical of the extensive Bible translation work carried out across Papua New Guinea's hundreds of distinct language communities. A 1993 Genesis portion is also archived at the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea.
