Tala is a Chadic language of the West Chadic branch spoken by a small community — approximately 1,000 speakers as of the early 1990s — in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The Language Developers and Bible Translators (LDBT) Association, a Nigerian Christian organization based in Bauchi that works across the minority languages of Bauchi State, produced scripture in Tala as part of its broader mandate combining oral Bible translation, orthography development, and community literacy. LDBT's work in Tala was part of an oral Bible storytelling initiative begun around 2006 with support from the Luke Partnership International and The Seed Company, focusing on five languages including Tala, Baraza, Buli, Ribina, and Zakshi. The resulting audio New Testament,'s Bible.is platform alongside video content including the Gospel of Luke, gives this small Chadic-speaking community access to scripture in their mother tongue for the first time.
