Overview

Books of the New Testament in Upper Tanana is a 1972 translation of New Testament portions into the Upper Tanana Athabascan language. Titled T'oodiht'aiy Aandeegn', the volume gathered I and II Thessalonians, I and II Timothy, Titus, and Philemon, translated by Paul G. Milanowski with Alfred John and issued by Wycliffe Bible Translators (published by SIL in Fairbanks, Alaska). It built on earlier portions in the same language — the Gospel of Mark (1966, with Donald Joe) and I Timothy (1970, with Trudy Milanowski) — and preceded a fuller New Testament prepared with the Native Village of Tetlin and released in 2013. Upper Tanana is a critically endangered Athabaskan (Na-Dene) language spoken by approximately 300 people in east-central Alaska and the southwestern Yukon. This was one of the early Scripture translation efforts among Alaska Native Athabascan languages.
