Tojolabal New Testament (TOJWBT)

Overview

The Tojolabal New Testament was first published in 1972 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and Liga Biblica Internacional, making Scripture available in the Tojolabʼal Mayan language of Chiapas, Mexico. [1] Tojolabal (meaning "the right language" or "the language of the rightful people") is spoken by approximately 52,000 people concentrated primarily in the municipality of Las Margaritas in the highlands of Chiapas, and is closely related to the Chuj language of Guatemala. [2] [3] The translation was part of SIL's broader program of Bible translation into the indigenous Mayan languages of southeastern Mexico, which included parallel efforts in Tzotzil, Tzeltal, and other languages of the region.
