Tlapanec Acatepec John (TPXWBT)
Overview
This publication contains the book of Jonah translated into the Acatepec variety of Me'phaa (Tlapanec), an indigenous language spoken by approximately 50,000 people in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. [1] Published in 2020 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, it represents initial Scripture portions in this language variety, with the broader Me'phaa Bible translation effort being carried out in collaboration between Wycliffe and Iglesias Cristianas Tlapanecas (ICT), a local Me'phaa church organization. [2] The Acatepec translation project uses the Malinaltepec Me'phaa translation as a base text, alongside parallel projects for the Teocuitlapa and Tlacoapa varieties, reflecting the significant dialectal diversity within the Me'phaa language group, which comprises at least seven major varieties spoken across Guerrero.
