Olukwumi New Testament (ULBMLT)

Overview

The Olukwumi New Testament was completed in 2024 by Mission for Language Translation in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., bringing Scripture to one of Nigeria's smaller and more linguistically isolated language communities. Earlier scripture portions were available by 2020, followed by a New Testament by 2021 per some records, with the 2024 date reflecting the formal publication through Mission for Language Translation and its partners. The JESUS Film has also been produced in Olukwumi. No complete Bible has been reported for this language.

Language and People

Olukwumi (ISO 639-3: ulb), also spelled Olukumi or Ulukwumi, is spoken by approximately 23,000 people in Delta State, Nigeria. The Olukwumi people occupy eight communities west of the Niger River and speak an isolated dialect of Yoruba, though they are culturally associated with neighboring Anioma communities. Despite the small speaker population, Olukwumi maintains a distinct identity and orthography.
