Urim: Wurkapm a Maur Wailen Scripture Portions (URIWBT)

Overview

This volume contains Scripture portions in the Urim language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2016 by Wycliffe Bible Translators through the SIL Papua New Guinea branch [1]. Urim (autonym Wurkapm a Maur Wailen) is a Papuan language of the Torricelli phylum, classified within the Kombio-Arapesh-Urat branch, spoken by approximately 3,400 to 3,700 people in 16 villages along the southern foothills of the Torricelli Mountains in the East Sepik and Sandaun Provinces, in the Wewak inland area [2]. The language has four main dialect varieties: Yangkolen (the primary variety), Urim 1, Urim 2, and Kukwo, the latter spoken west of the Bongos River [2]. Bible portions were first translated beginning in the 1980s, with SIL supporting translation and literacy initiatives alongside the development of a practical Latin-script orthography [2]. The vernacular title "Wurkapm a Maur Wailen" and Tok Pisin subtitle "Sampela hap Nupela Testamen long tokples Urim long Niugini" indicate this edition contains selected New Testament passages [1].
