us-Saare New Testament (USSWBT)

Overview

The us-Saare Scripture project was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators in cooperation with the Us-Saare Language Project Development, an in-community translation partnership. Genesis video content has been made available as part of this effort. The project is related to the broader Dukawa language cluster of northwestern Nigeria: us-Saare (Western Dukawa) is a variety of the Duka language group, which also includes ut-Hun (Hun-Saare / Eastern Dukawa), for which Wycliffe completed a New Testament in 2012. The status of the us-Saare New Testament text is audio-accessible through Faith Comes By Hearing; no complete Bible has been reported for this language.

Language and People

us-Saare (ISO 639-3: uss), also known as Western Dukawa or es-Saare, is spoken by approximately 73,000 people in northwestern Nigeria. It belongs to the Adamawa branch of the Niger-Congo family. The Dukawa people of this region have historically had limited access to Scripture in their own language, and translation work has proceeded in parallel across the closely related Eastern and Western varieties of Duka.
