Etulo NT (UTREBL)
Overview
The Etulo New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Etulo language (ISO 639-3: utr), an Idomoid language of the Benue-Congo family spoken in Benue State, Nigeria. [1] The translation was completed in May 2024 in both written and audio formats, through a partnership between SIL Nigeria and the Initiative for the Translation and Development of African Languages (ITDAL). [2] The Etulo people are located primarily in Buruku and parts of Katsina-Ala Local Government Areas, on both banks of the Katsina Ala River in southern Benue State. [1] Estimates of the number of Etulo speakers vary widely, ranging from 10,000 to 100,000. [1] The language is considered endangered due to its restricted use, as most Etulo people also speak Tiv, the dominant regional language. [1] The completion of this New Testament was celebrated by the community as a milestone many had doubted would become a reality. [2]
