Waffa New Testament (WAJWBT)

Overview

The Waffa New Testament was published in 1975 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, making it one of the earlier New Testament translations completed in Papua New Guinea [1]. Waffa (also known as Vuafaaqaa) is a Kainantu language of the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea by approximately 3,700 people across three dialect groups: Kusing, Siyaka, and Toombuna [2]. New Testament portions were available as early as 1969, preceding the complete New Testament by six years [2]. The translation was carried out under the auspices of Wycliffe Bible Translators and published in Australia by WBT at Kangaroo Ground, Victoria [1]. The vernacular title "Karaasa Yeena Rau Kioo Kuaivovee" identifies the translation as the New Testament in the Waffa language.
