Waka New Testament (WAVNBT)
Overview
The Waka New Testament was produced by the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT), Nigeria's national Bible translation organization. The NBTT, working in partnership with SIL International since 1976, currently has translation projects underway or completed in over 100 Nigerian minority languages. Audio New Testament content in Waka is accessible through Faith Comes By Hearing, with translation teams using tools such as Render, Paratext, and Translators Workplace to support the work. No complete Bible has been reported for this language.
Language and People
Waka (ISO 639-3: wav) is an Adamawa language of the Niger-Congo family spoken by approximately 11,000 people in Nigeria. It is thought to be used as a first language throughout the Yangdang Waka community and is not known to be taught in schools. As with many of Nigeria's smaller Adamawa languages, Waka speakers have historically had limited access to Scripture in their own tongue.
Publishing and Organizations
Published by the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT), a Jos-based organization that serves as Nigeria's primary indigenous Bible translation body, working across the country's remarkable linguistic diversity.
