Kitabi Momangkilona Wolio (WLOEBL)
Overview
The Kitabi Momangkilona Wolio is a partial Bible in the Wolio language (ISO 639-3: wlo), containing 28 books including Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, Esther, Psalms, and most New Testament books. It was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Wolio is an Austronesian language spoken primarily on Buton Island, around the city of Baubau in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, by approximately 65,000 people. [1] Historically, Wolio served as the court language of the Buton Sultanate and continues to function as a lingua franca among several groups on Buton Island. [2] The ancestors of the Wolio people were immigrants from Johor, Malaysia, who arrived at the beginning of the 15th century and founded the Buton dynasty; in 1540, the sixth king converted to Islam and established the sultanate, which endured until 1960. [2] The translation is also available as an Android app with text and audio, and includes films about Jesus from the Gospel of Luke in the Wolio language. [3]
